PRAIRIE CITY – Visitors and local residents will be able to make use of new restroom facilities thanks to the efforts of the Prairie City Community Association.

Working in conjunction with the Cycle Oregon Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation, Vice President Melanie DeJong the local association was able to present the city with checks totaling $10,000 for construction of the new facility at the Wednesday, July 24, meeting of the Prairie City City Council.

Mayor Leonard Wolf accepted the checks on behalf of the city, and vowed to have the new restrooms completed “before the “snow flys.”

“The financial burden is no longer a problem for us as it has been for the past four or five years. Now its just a matter of going forward,” Wolf said.

The Cycle Oregon Fund awarded a grant of $5,000 to the PCCA through GREAT, the Grant County Resource Enhancement Action Team, and assisted the association with the grant application and submitted it under its non-profit status.

In 2001, Cycle Oregon began and ended its ride in Prairie City and notified the PCCA of the opportunity to apply for a grant through the Oregon Community Association.

The PCCA then matched the $5,000 grant with an equal amount of money for the completion of the facility which will be located in the Prairie City City Park across from City Hall.
