Rudio Creek ropers make good at ranch

KIMBERLY – Ropers competed in the second installment of Grant County’s Rudio Creek Ranch-Castle Rock Corrientes Saddle Series at Rudio Creek Ranch on Aug. 3.

The No. 8 roping was won by Drew Knowles of John Day and Darrel Burton of Mt. Vernon. They also logged the fastest time in first-round competition. Second place went to Stewart Severe and Mick Miller, both of Burns; and third place went to John Forrest of Prairie City and John Swaggart of Long Creek.

In the No. 7 roping, Jared Burns and Rocky Marsh logged the fastest time; first place went to John McCarty of Prairie City and Miller; second went to Forrest and Swaggart; third was awarded to Chris Wood and Jim Hampshire, both of Prairie City; and fourth went to Nolan and Chad Edwards of Fields (near Frenchglen).

In the No. 5 roping, McCarty and Miller took fastest time and first place; Forrest and Swaggart placed second; Wood and Jake Taylor of John Day placed third; and Nolan and Chad Edwards were fourth.

The next installment of the series for team ropers is Saturday, Aug. 31, at the Grant County Fairgrounds Arena. Action starts at 10 a.m. Concessions are offered. Admission is free.

The inaugural roping was July 27 at the Grant County Fairgrounds Arena. The series of six competitions allows competitors to score points toward a saddle qualification.

Fair rodeo action begins at 1:30 p.m. each day. Slack is 8 a.m. Sunday.
