John Day Seniors: Flu shots offered Oct. 14

Oregon Trail Electric Cooperative furnished the entree of roast beef on Oct. 3, and John and JoLyn Stearns attended along with their daughter. St. Thomas Episcopal Church members served. Arlene Oliver led the flag salute, and Episcopal Priest Doug Hale gave the blessing.

Bill Palmer entertained the crowd on piano. Joyce Nodine shared an especially funny story, which all enjoyed.

Jess Bliss was a welcomed guest.

Anna Alegria received the certificate from Chester’s Thriftway, and Sylvia Warrick the free senior meal.

Last Wednesday’s bingo winners were Lucille Fooks and Dot Planchon, who each won $30 consolation. Callers were Cindy Conner and Don Caldwell.

Salmon loaf was served Oct. 7 by the Blue Mountain Hospital Auxiliary members. Isa Wilson led the flag salute and Ivan Porfily offered the blessing. Len’s Drug certificate was awarded to Thelma Temple, and Lyle Baldwin received one from John Day Pharmacy.

It was announced that flu shots will be given at the John Day Senior Center on Oct. 14, 8 a.m.-noon. Tickets are on sale for the Hawaiian luau, which will be 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at the center. Tickets are $10 for adults; $9 for seniors; youth 6-10, $6. Pre-sale price is $1 off, so make a reservation.

Chicken will be served at the senior center on Thursday, Oct. 10; soup and sandwiches on Monday, Oct. 14.
