GUHS volleyball players earn recognition

PORTLAND – The Grant Union High School volleyball team, which finished in second place at the OSAA/US Bank/Les Schwab Tires Class 2A state tournament at David Douglas High School on Nov. 8-9, had three players named as all-state performers.

Senior Ashley Workman was voted as a first-team all-star, and senior Abby Workman earned a place on the second team.

Junior Amanda Courchesne was named as a member of the third team.

Senior Jana Brotherton from Union was voted Class 2A player of the year, and Union coach Patti Herron was named coach of the year.

Second team – Melissa Helmer, Sr., Union; Abby Workman, Sr., Grant Union; Chelsea Nay, Sr., Myrtle Point; Meagan Kintz, Sr., Regis; Lanish Goicoa, Sr., Culver; Jenni Pomante, Sr. Corbett.

Third team – Michelle Wyatt, Sr., Central Linn; Addi Radke, Soph., Santiam Christian; Jackie Kyles, Sr., Weston-McEwen; Kallin Prince, Sr., Union; Amanda Allen, Sr., Culver; Amanda Courchesne, Jr., Grant Union; Caitlin Hill, Sr., Portland Christian.
