PORTLAND – Have you ever rushed to answer the phone, and been dismayed to find a telemarketer at the other end of the line? Perhaps you’ve put in a long day at work and finally have a chance to put up your feet or maybe the family is sitting down to an evening dinner, when a dreaded phone solicitation rings in.

There is a way to decrease unwanted phone calls if you sign up for the Oregon No Call List. This registration will stop most telemarketing calls.

The list is updated biannually prior to April and July publications. The Web site www.ornocall.com and phone registrations at 1-800-700-6622 are now accepted. Cellular phone customers also can register with No Call.

Registration for the Oregon No Call list costs $6.50 for the first year and $3 each year thereafter. The list is updated quarterly and is distributed to more than 1,250 telemarketers in 49 states and two foreign countries.

More than 112,000 Oregonians now subscribe to Oregon No Call, with nearly 300 in Grant County.

The No Call Law was enacted by the Oregon Legislature in 1999. Companies that call homes on the No Call list are subject to fines of up to $25,000. To date, Oregon Attorney General Hardy Myers has fined 120 companies more than $450,000 for violating the No Call Law. The Attorney General’s toll-free Consumer Hotline is 1-877-877-9392.
