MILTON-FREEWATER – A total of 35 boys’ and girls’ track teams from Oregon and Washington Class 4A through 2A high schools were on hand for the Mac-Hi Carnival of Speed track meet on Friday, April 4, and the Grant Union boys and girls put together several strong performances against some first-class competition.

The girls scored a total of 52.5 points to finish in fifth place at the meet, while the boys came in 12th with 21 points.

The Pendleton boys and girls won both halves of the meet with 143 and 97 points respectively, while Riverside took second place for the boys with 79.5 points and DeSales, Wash., scored 70 points to earn second place in the girls division.

Individually, Amy Jones, Kaylee Lemcke and Bree Myers dominated the girls triple jump competition for the Prospectors.

Jones won the event with a leap of 35-8.5, with Lemcke placing fourth at 31-10.5 and Myers finishing fifth in a distance of 31-3.

Jones also earned a third-place finish in the long jump at 16-1.

Amanda Courchesne also scored points in two events for the Prospectors, throwing the javelin 108-9.5 good for third and placed sixth in the discus at 100-8.

Charity Holliday finished tied for fifth in the 100 in a time of 13.6, and took sixth in the 200 at 29.6.

Teammate Anna Cronin was seventh in the 100 at 13.7.

Kristal Holliday cleared the bar at a height of 8-0 to take fourth in the pole vault, and the Grant Union 4×100 relay team also placed fourth.

The Grant Union boys had three third-place finishers, led by Tyler Page who ran a time of 53.9 in the 400.

Justin Cernazanu pole vaulted 10-6 good for third, and Marshall Schultz threw the javelin a distance of 146-5.25 to place third in the event.

Tim Wallace was the other competitor to score points for the Prospectors finishing sixth in the 200 in a time of 24.1.

Grant Union competed in the Vale meet on Tuesday, and will travel to Sisters for a meet on Saturday, April 12.
