Monument Seniors: Spring arrivals – flowers, baby animals, Extension Spring Fling

Published 5:00 pm Tuesday, April 8, 2003

April 1 was not a fool’s day around here. We had 35 in attendance, three of whom were guests. Sharon McKinnon was originally from here but now she and husband, Mac, could be just about anywhere in the U.S.A. Delmar and Vinita Poulson came from Spray.

Hamburgers with all the trimmings, french fries, green salad and “do-it-yourself” ice cream sundaes were served. I took advantage and “did it myself” with the sundae and nearly had to ask someone to carry it back to the table for me.

Certificate winners were Chet Mael, free meal; Charlotte Howell, certificate from Chester’s Thriftway; Donna Campbell, Len’s Drug; Gus Petersen, Radio Shack; Vinita Poulson, Touch of Country; and Van Richards, John Day Hardware.

The Home Extension “Spring Fling” will be held April 25 at the Monument Senior Center.

The farewell dessert for Bill and Christy Scheufele on Saturday April 5 brought lots of people to say good-bye.

Spring is really here, in spite of the weather. My lawn needs to be mowed and flowers are blooming all over the place.

On my last trip to John Day, there were lots of “babies” along the highway – calves, lambs and colts. And the rototillers are busy preparing gardens at the neighbors.
