LONG CREEK – On April 9, Long Creek FFA held its annual Donkey Basketball game. This years’ participants were the Long Creek FFA Hipsters, Long Creek Staff Hot Tamales, Long Creek Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Rescuers, and Les Schwab Commandoes. The winners of the tournament took home a gift certificate to Figaros for two large pizzas and two liters of soda.

The first two teams to play were the Long Creek FFA Hipsters and the Rescuers. Although the hipsters had the advantage of knowing how to play they still came short. The Rescuers pulled through with a 16-14 win over the veterans in sudden death overtime.

The next game was just as exciting, between the Hot Tamales and the Commandoes. It also went into overtime with the scored tied at 14. The Commandoes, the veterans, fell short in overtime and lost to the Hot Tamales 16-14.

In the championship game the Hot Tamales and the Rescuers faced off. It was a hard-fought game as the donkeys were becoming more stubborn and slow, with the final score being 14-8. Long Creek FFA adviser Mike Wilson coped with the four-legged athletes’ refuse.

The Long Creek FFA welcomed the participation of Les Schwab and the Long Creek Fire and Ambulance in the games. The Long Creek FFA noted that Bruce Wick of Donkey Sports Inc. provided the donkeys and gear.
