Mary Gladys Matzen, 87, of Hermiston died April 12.
A wake officiated by Father Julian Cassar will be held noon, Saturday, April 19, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in John Day.
She was born Oct. 10, 1915, at John Day to Joseph Henry Grattin and Della Mae (Bonham) Keerins.
In 1940, she married Bill Matzen at John Day.
Mrs. Matzen attended a business college and at various times served as the postmaster at Izee. She also held clerk positions at John Day and Hermiston.
She lived at John Day until the early 1960s, when she moved to the Hermiston area.
Mrs. Matzen enjoyed cooking, gardening and her grandchildren. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters and the Elks Lodge Auxiliary and served as a foster grandmother.
Mrs. Matzen is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, Joe Matzen and Loyal Matzen of Umatilla and B.J. and Sue Matzen of Klamath Falls; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, Sam Matzen.
