Janet Fay Marie Porter, 27, of Prairie City died April 26 at John Day.
She was born June 6, 1975, at Nampa, Idaho, to Lorin and Helen Porter. She was raised in Prairie City and graduated in 1993 from Prairie City High School, where she was active in volleyball, cheerleading, served as class president and was named to the National Honor Society.
She became a nanny for two lawyers in Philadelphia, Penn., but returned to Oregon where she could see the stars at night. For a time, she served as a fire dispatcher for the Bureau of Land Management in Vale, then resided in Texas before returning again to Oregon.
On March 10, 2003, her son, Aiden John Alexander Porter, was born at Eugene and he became the highlight of her life.
Ms. Porter is survived by her parents, Lorin and Helen Porter of John Day; sister, Christin Jean Porter of Kimberly; nephew Mason William Porter of Kimberly; grandfathers, Fay Burril of Prairie City and John Porter of John Day; uncles and aunts Pete and Cheryl Burril, Bob and Diana Burril, Joe Burril, Mitch and Jennie Mund, Dean and Teri Porter and Jim and Myra Deming; cousins, Gus, Jay and Joy Burril, Jonna and Dillon Porter, Eddy John, Justin and Ashley Mund, and John and Alan Burril.
She was preceded in death by grandmothers Janet Burril and Frances Porter, and uncle John Burril.
A memorial service officiated by Mitch Mund was held May 3 at the Church of the Nazarene in John Day.
