Timothy E. Sullivan, 53, of Centreville, Va., died Sept. 19, in Charlotte, N.C.

He was born Aug. 19, 1950, at Long Beach, Calif., to James and Aneth (Quick) Sullivan and was raised in Bellflower, Calif.

He graduated in 1968 from Mayfair High School at Lakewood, Colo., then at Utah State University received a bachelor’s degree in forest management and a master’s in soil science.

On July 11, 1970, he married Judy Hutton at Long Beach, Calif. The couple moved to Grant County in 1980.

Mr. Sullivan was employed as a soil scientist by the Malheur National Forest from 1980-92. From 1992-2002, he was the assistant regional soil scientist for the U.S. Forest Service, Rocky Mountain Region, based in Colorado. From Nov. 2002 until his passing he served as National Soils and Riparian Leader for the Bureau of Land Management in Washington, DC.

While in Canyon City 1980-92, Mr. Sullivan served on the City Council and was mayor. He and his wife were active in “Christians Alive” ministry. The family participated with the John Day Swim Team and Mr. Sullivan coached T-ball and Little League.

Mr. Sullivan is survived by his wife of 33 years, Judy; mother, Aneth Harris of Long Beach, Calif; children, Jennifer Lambeth of Parker, N.C., Brian Sullivan of Charlotte, N.C. and Shawn Sullivan of Lakewood, Colo.; grandchildren Chassney, Toya and Indiana Lambeth, Hannah and Colin Sullivan; and sister Sandi Young.

He was preceded in death by brother James L. Sullivan and father James P. Sullivan.

A memorial service was held Sept. 26 at Livingway Fellowship in Littleton, Colo.

A graveside service will be held at Sunnyside Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Coupeville, Wash., at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5.
