Prairie City Seniors: Red fire bushes signal season
Published 5:00 pm Tuesday, October 7, 2003
The first day of October was another beautiful fall day. Have you noticed the red fire bushes and the deer coming to eat the fallen apples?
Our morning crew of Amos Cardwell, Carl Johns, Buzz Harris and Marvin Casebeer put flowers on tables and prepared for the lunch crowd. Buzz delivered three home meals. Carl led the flag salute.
First-timers were Larry and Peggy Bradford; we hope they come again. Visiting from Blue Mountain Nursing Home were Cal Suksdorf, Ruth White, Ruby Dow and Virginia Hymer accompanied by Lorna Askew and Dawn Polley.
Gift ceritifcate winners included: Thelma Temple, Prairie Drug and Hardware; Barbara Reynolds, Lunch Box Deli; and Jim Howard, free haircut at Mort’s Barber Shop.
Ruth Johns gave the blessing. The American Legion Auxiliary, Vivian Rookstool, Barbara Reynolds, Louise LaBaugh and Winnie Smith served salmon loaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, Jell-O fruit salad, rolls and yellow cake.
After lunch, Buzz and Marjorie Harris and Carl Johns helped the servers in the kitchen. Bonnie Lake, Naomi Goslin and Cleo Dunten pre-washed silverware, and Marvin Casebeer, Ottis Garrett, Hank Goslin and Del Lake cleaned the dining room.
Join us for our next luncheon on Oct. 8 at noon.
