UNITY – The Burnt River High School volleyball team remained undefeated and on top of the TriCo league with a five-game victory over Monument-Dayville Friday, Oct. 3.

The Bulls won the first game 25-18, before losing the second and third games 25-18, 25-17.

Pulling together, Burnt River captured the fourth game with a thrilling 27-25 victory and and put the match away with a 15-8 win in the fifth game.

“It was a good match, but we didn’t play very well in the second and third games,” Burnt River coach Riki Abrego said. “We were able to pull together, and regained our composure in the fourth and fifth games, though. Today was a good win for us and it keeps us in first place.”

Monument-Dayville coach Treila Osborne said the Tigers (1-3 TriCo) played a good match but just couldn’t finish off in the fifth game.

“Everyone played hard and well, and this was the best we’ve played as a team this season,” she said.

Burnt River hosts Jordan Valley in a league match on Thursday, Oct. 9, and Monument-Dayville plays a doubleheader at Harper/Huntington on Thursday.

Both teams will play in the Burnt River Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 11.
