Mary McKern read instructions from a mother to her daughter on how to wash clothes in the early 1800s. Thank goodness for the many conveniences we have now which make life easier, although not necessarily less hectic.
The second Thursday of each month, a group from Monument comes for dinner and shopping. Chester’s Thriftway certificate was awarded to Betty Shrof, who accompanied the Monument group. Gloria Kulis won a free meal from the Senior Center.
Lorraine Shaffer furnished the entree of Salisbury steaks served by Mt. Vernon Grange members.
A large delicious chocolate cake was furnished and served by Driskill Memorial Chapel and Kings of John Day in honor of people with October birthdays.
A small crowd enjoyed salmon casserole on Oct. 13, served by staff from Valley View Assisted Living. Colleen Reilling led the flag salute. Certificates were awarded to Harley McGetrick from John Day Pharmacy and Anna Alegria from Len’s Drug.
Naomi Goslin and Bill Palmer were wished happy birthday.
Please join us for chicken dinner on Thursday, Oct. 16, and barbecue on a bun will be the entree for Monday, Oct 20.
