MONUMENT – Mitchell’s Eric Lofton ran over, around and through Monument/Dayville defenders for a total of 229 yards and three touchdowns, as the Loggers spoiled the Tigers’ Homecoming with a 52-8 victory in TriCo League football action on Friday, Oct. 17.

With the loss, Monument/Dayville finished the 2003 season with a 1-5 record.

The Loggers opened the scoring at the 3:29 mark of the first quarter when Henry Pedro connected with Dustin Cloud on a 35-yard scoring pass.

Lofton scored his first touchdown on a 50-yard run with 1:30 remaining in the opening period to up the lead to 14-0.

A pair of touchdowns by the senior halfback in the second quarter on runs of 26 and 7 yards gave the Loggers a 28-0 lead, and when Henning Kalkhoven found pay dirt after a 34-yard sprint with 6:49 remaining in the quarter, Mitchell was in front by a comfortable 34-0 margin at halftime.

Mani Martin put points on the board for Monument/Dayville with a 54-yard run at the 2:19 mark of the third quarter and ran for the conversion to make the score 34-8, but that was the only bright spot for the Tigers.

Monument/Dayville had only 133 yards in rushing offense and none through the air, and the Tiger offense was hampered by five turnovers, including four intercepted passes.

A 30-yard pass from Pedro to Cloud opened the scoring for the Loggers in the final period, and touchdown runs by Tim Misener and Jake Williams of 1 and 5 yards put the final points on the board.

Cloud rushed for 51 yards for the Loggers and caught four passes good for an additional 82 yards. Herb Paul caught three balls for 34 yards.

Martin led Monument/Dayville with 113 yards on 12 carries.
