25-17, 25-9, 25-21

PRAIRIE CITY – The Prairie City High School volleyball team upped its record to 7-2 in the Old Oregon League with a 25-17, 25-9, 25-21 victory over Adrian in the Homecoming match on Friday, Oct. 17.

The victory keeps the Panthers tied with Wallowa for first place in the OOL, and sets up a showdown with Powder Valley on Friday, Oct. 24, for the No. 1 seed into the upcoming District No. 4 tournament scheduled for Saturday, Nov 1., in John Day.

“The girls played well in the match and this was one we needed to win if we want to have a chance of winning the league championship,” Prairie City coach Eva Saul said.

Amanda Rockhill set the pace in the match against the Antelopes with seven kills, 79 percent defensive passing and five points.

Brittany Reid was 90 percent setting with five kills, nine assists and six points, and Danielle Smith was 87 percent in defensive passing with six points and three kills.

Eve Denton was 83 percent in setting with five assists and six points, and Cherise Ricco had three kills.

Kayla Reid scored 18 points serving with nine aces and a pair of kills.

“Kayla did an excellent job serving and she was 20-for-20 at the line,” Saul said.

Danielle Ricco with four points and two kills, and Jill Martens with a pair of kills rounded out the Panthers’ scoreboard.

The match against Powder Valley has been moved to Friday, Oct. 24, with tip-off set for 4 p.m. at Prairie City.
