Fire season restricted

The Oregon Department of Forestry reminds people that there is no open burning at this time, but it is issuing burn barrel permits. The burn barrel permits can be obtained at local ODF stations in John Day, Monument or Fossil. The burn barrel permits allow burning from 6-10 a.m. in an approved burning device. When open burning is allowed you will still have to obtain a burn permit from ODF. The fire danger in the John Day Valley is on the high side of moderate. It is still very dry out there, ODF cautions.
