Former Grant County resident Frank Edgar Rhodes, 85, of Fontana, Calif., died Sept. 19.

Mr. Rhodes was born April 19, 1918, in Bear Valley and attended school at Cummingsville, west of Mt. Vernon.

He worked in the Portland shipyards during World War II, then returned to Grant County.

While in Grant County in the mid-1940s-60s, Mr. Rhodes was employed in maintenance at Blue Mountain Mills. For the past 23 years, he resided in San Jacinto, Calif., where he had been a maintenance worker for Los Angeles County and University of California Medical Center.

Mr. Rhodes is survived by two daughters, Oradell Talley of John Day and Susan DeBay of Rancho Cocamonga, Calif.; two sons, Ed and Gerald; 24 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Iris in 1997, three stepsons and one grandchild.

Services were held Sept. 26 in Hemet, Calif. Interment was at Oakdale Memorial Park at Glendora, Calif.
