WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Larry Craig, Chairman of the Special Committee on Aging, praised a new Web site for senior citizens that was launched recently by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The launch was made at a Senate office building in Washington, DC.

“This new Web site has a talking function that should be very helpful, especially for those that are visually impaired. As you move your cursor across the screen, a computer voice reads out the words. It’s quite phenomenal,” Sen. Craig said.

The new Web site, NIH SeniorHealth.gov, was jointly developed by the National Institute on Aging and the National Library of Medicine, both parts of the NIH.

It contains iformation and health topics specifically designed for senior citizens, including Alzheimer’s disease, caregiving, arthritis, balance problems, breast cancer, colorectal cancer, exercise for older adults, hearing loss, lung cancer, and prostrate cancer. Each topic provides general background information, quizzes, frequently asked questions, video clips with transcripts, and photographs.

The chairman of the Special Committee on Aging said that his committee has already linked its Web site to the new offering.

“The Special Committee on Aging’s Web site contains useful links to a variety of topics.
