CONDON – The Grant Union High School wrestling continued to make preparations for the upcoming district tournament scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Feb. 13-14, in Elgin. They will take on teams from Wahtonka, The Dalles and the host Blue Devils in a four-team round-robin tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 3.
Coach Dave Naibert said the team as a whole did a pretty good job and he is expecting several members of the squad to have a good chance of making it as far as the state tournament.
“Josh (Arnall) finished 3-0 at this tournament and won the 135-pound weight division,” Naibert said. “He is currently the second-ranked wrestler in the state in his weight category. Sam (Stinnett) also finished 3-0 to win the 189-pound championship. Currently, Sam is 10th-ranked in the state.”
On the year, Arnall has an impressive 27-1 record, while Stinnett is 24-7.
Also winning the championship at Condon was Logan Titus, wrestling at 125 pounds. Logan finished 4-0 and boosted his season record to 25-6.
Placing second were Rustin McLeod (140) with a 2-1 record, Gus Stiner (160) also with a 2-1 record, Aaron Humbird (112) at 2-1 and Jeremy Hyde with a 1-1 record at 103 pounds.
