LONG CREEK – Long time Long Creek resident Nancy Morgan has just completed her new country western CD titled, “Messages from the Heart.”

Nancy says that she has always loved country music and started playing the guitar at the age of 14 and started writing a few songs.

Nancy moved to Long Creek with her family when she was only 3-months-old in 1945. She graduated from Long Creek High School in 1963 and married Red Morgan, owner and proprietor of The Mountain Inn restaurant in Long Creek.

After getting married Nancy settled in to raise her family and put her music to the side. Her daughter, Dana, is married to Glen Moodenbaugh, and they now live next door to Nancy, with their two children, Tyler and Tanner. Her son, Danny Morgan and family live in Hermiston.

Nancy and Red successfully ran The Mountain Inn until they sold the business in 1975 to Moya Gilman of Long Creek. After selling the restaurant, Nancy and Red became a husband and wife custodial team for Long Creek Elementary and High Schools. Red passed away in 1993, but Nancy continued to work at the school, until her retirement in 2000, after 25 years of service.

After retirement, and with more time on her hands, Nancy started writing again. Her son Danny, after listening to one of her songs, said, “Mom, you can’t just sit on these, they’re awesome!”

So Nancy began sending her songs to The Nashville Song Service located in Nashville, Tenn. They, in turn, promote and pitch the songs to such names as Reba McEntire, George Strait and Alan Jackson. Nancy has had 15 demos done now out of 30 songs.

Nancy also helps co-write songs, as was the instance with a song called, “Waltz with an Angel.” The chorus of the song was written 30 years ago, by Gene Sawyer of Kennewick, Wash., to which Nancy added verses and made a demo.

Local radio station KJDY plays many of Nancy’s songs, as does KORD out of Tri-cities.

Nancy’s hopes for the future, is to have one of the famous country western singers to pick one of her songs and make it a hit. And she’s making ground. Recently, one of Nancy’s titles, “What Was I Thinkin’,” was picked up by country western singer Durk Bently and became a billboard hit last year.

Nancy loves the country life and will keep doing what she loves best, writing and singing songs.
