Page Springs Campground, Chickahominy Reservoir to open

STEENS MOUNTAIN – Page Springs Campground on Steens Mountain and Chickahominy Reservoir Campground near Riley are scheduled to open and be in full service for the summer beginning Friday, April 9.

Visitors to Page Springs Campground, which is located 3 miles east of Frenchglen along the Donner und Blitzen Rivers, will find 30 campsites, toilets, drinking water, garbage service, fire rings, tables, a short nature trail and campground hosts throughout summer.

At Chickahominy Reservoir, located 5 miles west of Riley, visitors will find 18 camp units, a fish cleaning station, sun shelters, drinking water, garbage service, toilets, fire rings, a new paved access road, a parking lot, boarding floats and a boat ramp.

Fisheries will be available for the 2004 season. The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) is working steadily to stock areas that have been affected by drought in recent years, including Chickahominy Reservoir. For further information on fisheries stocking, contact ODFW at (541) 573-6582.

Overnight camping fees of $8 per vehicle per night will be in effect at each campground starting April 9. Day-use fees do not apply.

Remaining campgrounds in the Burns District will be opened later this spring or summer, depending on weather and road conditions.
