Grant Union 50, Umatilla 38

UMATILLA – A three-point basket Toby Thomas with 2:38 remaining in the game ignited a 12-0 Grant Union run as the Prospectors got back on the winning track defeating Umatilla 50-38 in a nonleague basketball game on Tuesday, Dec. 28.

The game started out for Grant Union (6-7), as many of them have this season with the Prospectors getting off to a slow start and trailing 10-4 after the first quarter of play.

The offense heated up in the second quarter as the Prospectors outscored the Vikings 15-7 to take a 19-17 halftime advantage.

Thomas also played a key role at the end of the second period converting three-straight free throws with no time showing on the clock to give Grant Union the lead.

Free throws kept the Pros in the game as Grant Union converted 12-of-16 attempts.

Umatilla rallied in the hard-fought third quarter to tie the score 30-30 heading into the final period and the count was deadlocked 38-38 before the Prospectors went on their late-game scoring barrage.

Nolin Page scored nine points for the Prospectors and Thomas had eight.
