Lady Tigers topped by Mustangs, Bulls

DAYVILLE – The Monument/Dayville girls basketball team had a tough weekend, losing a pair of games to TriCo League opponents Crane and Burnt River.

On Friday, the Lady Tigers played a strong first half against the No. 1- ranked Crane squad on its home court before falling to the Mustangs 55-13.
At home on Saturday, Marianne Bradford scored 18 points and Courtney Schnetz had 17 as the Lady Bulls bested Monument/Dayville 58-46.
Despite the losses, the Lady Tigers are still in the running for a post-season playoff spot with a 7-4 record in the league and 11-4 overall.

“We played a slow down game against Crane and were behind 25-8 at halftime,” Monument/Dayville coach Maurice Thorne said. “We missed eight free throws in the first half so the score could have been closer.”
Thorne said the Lady Tigers stayed with the slow pace in the second half, but Crane made some adjustments and ended up pulling away.
“Our kids played well, but we had trouble with their press the whole game,” he said.
Tiffnie Ashley scored six points to lead the Lady Tigers.
In Saturday’s game against Burnt River, Monument/ Dayville had trouble handling the Lady Bulls’ big girls.
Madi Anspach scored 16 points for Monument/Dayville and Emma Winkelman had 10.
