Prairie City Seniors:Snail mail slow, but not lost in Portland

I started this with the understanding last week’s news never arrived at Blue Mountain Eagle. At first I thought a snail carried it to John Day.

I learned the mail last Thursday, went across the state of Oregon to Portland and back to John Day. How dumb can the postal service get?
Why can’t the mail go directly from Prairie City to John Day and Canyon City without traveling 10-20 times the distance?
Yeah, another reason to not want to be Senior News writer.

Today’s announcement was that solo guitarist George Winston will be in concert at 7:30 on Saturday, Feb. 12 at the Methodist Church in Prairie City.
This is a benefit-fundraiser for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Oregon. Tickets are on sale at Prairie Drug and Hardware and at John Day Video. See posters for more information.
Marvin asked for a “thank you” for Buzz for the new water heater work done in the ladies’ restroom. This is the little water heater not the main one.
Our gift certificate winners were, Ruby Oliver from Chuck’s Little Diner; Jim Lunzman from the Lunch Box Deli; Jim Howard from Mort’s Barber Shop and Mel Rookstool from Prairie Drug and Hardware.
Lorna Askew and Trish Coburn brought Lou Tacy, Mildred Benson, Beau Johnson and Lola Crabtree from the Blue Mountain Nursing Home.
Today, Jan. 19, we had spaghetti, mixed veggie salad, toasted garlic bread and fruit jello with cool whip. Our servers were Elaine Kight and Sharon Kimberling from the Grace Chapel.
They were assisted by Marjorie Harris and Vivian Rookstool.
Buzz delivered eight meals and Eula T. greeted 37 attending. Flag salute was led by Daniel Harris and the last thing before eating Jack Viggers gave the blessing.
Sorry, Louise, about your name being spelled wrong in the paper last week, too many hands involved.
Anyway, thank you for your help, and to all who helped clean up the hall and in the kitchen. Our set up gang today consisted of Marvin, Jim, Ottis, Buzz and Amos, who played hooky the rest of the morning.
Leonard Trafton’s service was this morning, Jan. 19.
Those who went to Baker City Tuesday, the 18th, reported a very enjoyable trip and shopping. Just too short. They ate at the Baker City Senior Center.
