Clarence Bernard Elbert

Clarence Bernard Elbert, a career lumber-mill worker, died Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at Grande Ronde Hospital in La Grande. He was 74. A celebration of life was held June 20.

Mr. Elbert was born Nov. 14, 1930, in West Stayton to Daniel and Vadis Lee (Scott) Elbert. His early education was in New Mexico and California. He moved back to Oregon in 1948.
He married Rosemarie Theresa Leverman on Aug. 30, 1957, in Sublimity. They lived in Rainier for 25 years, where he worked at the lumber mill. They moved to Prairie City, where he worked for Prairie Wood Products and Co-Gen Co. until he retired in 1993. After his retirement, they moved to La Grande.
Mr. Elbert enjoyed woodworking, playing the guitar and piano, camping, gardening, electronic gadgets, and traveling around the United States. He was an avid Notre Dame football fan.

He was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Rose of La Grande; three daughters Pam Poland of Pendleton; Cheryl Campbell of Imbler; Julia Gannon of La Grande; two sons Martin and Jeff Elbert of Longview, Wash.; four brothers, Louis Elbert of Newberg; William, Alvin, and James Elbert of Rainier; two sisters, Leona Dixson of Blaine, Tenn.; and Betty Nelson of Kitwanga, British Columbia, Canada; 11 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers Daniel and Robert.
