Eastern Oregon Highland Games

JOHN DAY – The Eastern Oregon Highland Games will begin with the opening flag ceremony at 8 a.m. Sept. 17, at the Grant County Fairgrounds.

The games will immediately follow, beginning with the “Braemar” Openstone Throw. This will be followed by the 22 lb. stone throw, the 56 lb. weight throw (for distance) and the 56 lb. weight toss (for height). After the weight toss will be the 16 and 22 lb. hammer throws, followed by the caber toss. After the caber toss, the final game of the day will be the Men’s Final Four Caber Challenge.

At 11:30 a.m., there will be a clan parade and march, followed at noon by lunch. The Beer Garden will be open at noon.

At 1 a.m. the River City Pipe Band will hold its first performance, followed by their second performance at 4 p.m.

At 5 p.m., the awards will be presented and the closing ceremony will be performed, followed by dinner at 5:30 p.m.

The Central Oregon Scottish Country Dancers will be performing throughout the day, along with bagpipe players and fiddlers.
