Four arrested on drug chargesJOHN DAY – Four local residents were lodged in the Grant County Jail just after midnight Oct. 31 on various drug charges after law enforcement officers served a search warrant on an apartment in the 400 block of East Main St.
At about 6:20 p.m. Oct. 30, Officer Tom Hutchison received a complaint of an odor of marijuana smoke coming from Apartment No. 13 at Scotts Apartments, 490 East Main St.
After completing an investigation, a search warrant was obtained for the apartment.

Arrested were Jody Gayle Cox, 28, on charges of frequenting a drug house and possession of less than one ounce of marijuana.
Also arrested was Harvie Leon Downing, 27, on charges of frequenting a drug house and possession of methamphetamine.
Tyson Richard Haack, 22, was charged with frequenting a drug house, possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, possession of meth, manufacturing a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school and possession of illegal fireworks.
Matthew Eric Sagaser, 21, was charged with frequenting a drug house, possession of meth, possession of less than one ounce of marijuana and manufacturing a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school.
John Day Police and Grant County Deputies conducted the raid.
Christmas Valley man guilty of horse theftCANYON CITY – One of two defendants charged with allegedly stealing horses from several ranches in the Bear Valley and Izee areas in 2004 was found guilty by a jury in Grant County Circuit Court Oct. 29 after a four-day trial.
Boyd Daniel Burroughs of Montana and Brian Lee Burroughs from Christmas Valley were both charged with six counts of first-degree theft and six counts of unauthorized use of livestock in the indictment.
Boyd Burroughs was acquitted by the jury on all charges and Brian Burroughs was found guilty on three counts of unauthorized use of livestock.
Sentencing is set for Dec. 1 at 11 a.m.
John Day DispatchOct. 24 A dead deer was reported on Highway 26 near milepost 164.5. ODOT advised.
A dog with a possible broken leg was reportedly walking in the 200 block of North Humbolt Street. Information referred to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
A deer was reportedly hit in the area of Primetime. Information referred to the John Day Police.
A dead deer was reported in the middle of the road on West Highway 26. Information referred to the police.

Prairie City Police Oct. 28 – Michael Voigt, no age listed, Prairie City, was cited for burning outside restrictions and no burn permit.

Oct. 24 – John Day Ambulance was dispatched to Country Spice for a male patient who was reportedly having acute abdominal pain.
Oct. 25 – John Day and Mt. Vernon ambulances were dispatched to a location in the 27000 block of Picnic Creek Road for a male patient who was reportedly having a diabetic reaction.
Oct. 25 – John Day Ambulance was dispatched to the Grant County Regional Airport for a transport for Airlife.
Oct. 26 – Prairie City Fire Department was dispatched for a possible fire at the Blue Mountain Nursing Home.
Oct. 27 – John Day Ambulance was dispatched to a location in the 400 block of Southwest Brent Drive for a patient who reportedly needed help with a back problem.

Oregon State Police Oct. 27 – Troopers investigated a one-vehicle accident involving a commercial vehicle on Highway 26 near milepost 97.
Investigation indicated John Wesley Hicks, 51, Sweet Home, was westbound on Highway 26 when the load on his trailer apparently shifted, causing the front trailer on the dual unit he was pulling and the 2004 Peterbuilt tractor to overturn.
Hicks told officers he had checked the load in Dayville and all the securement straps were tight.
EMS was dispatched from Dayville, but the driver refused treatment. The vehicle was towed by Prineville Tow.
Oct. 28 – Troopers investigated a one vehicle, injury traffic accident on Highway 26 near milepost 193.
Investigation indicated Nancy Ann Goin, 48, John Day, was eastbound on Highway 26 when she apparently encountered an icy roadway.
This caused her 2003 Ford F350 pickup to leave the eastbound lane of travel and slide uncontrollably through the westbound lane. The vehicle then struck a steep embankment and came to rest on its wheels on the westbound road shoulder facing east.
Goin was transported to Blue Mountain Hospital by ambulance and the vehicle was towed by Doug’s Towing.
