Boys, girls track teams break the ice

UMATILLA – At the annual Icebreaker track meet, the first track meet of the season, both the boys and girls teams took home top honors.

“We were defending champions from last year,” head coach Sonna Smith said. “I was hopeful that we would do well, and we did.”
Indeed they did do well. The boys racked up a total of 100.5 points, with second-place team finishing at 89 points. The girls scored 86 points, compared to the 81.5 points of the second-place team.
The boys’ 4×400-meter relay team, consisting of Eric Coats, Isaac Whitman, Joe Stinnett and Laramie Horn came in first, while the 4×100-meter relay, Nolin Page, Marc DesJardin, Ryne Smith and Ben Dieker, placed second.

Dustin Kreger, a junior, placed first in both the high jump and the 300-meter hurdles. Jamison Soupir, also a junior, took fifth in both the 100 and 300 hurdles, along with placing sixth in the triple jump.
Freshman Jimmy Cook placed third in high jump and seventh in javelin, and Adrian Reed, a senior, came in fifth in discus and eighth in shot put.
In the 400 dash, juniors Laramie Horn, Eric Coats and Joe Stinnett took fifth, sixth and eighth places, respectively.
In the pole vault, sophomore Chris Boyer placed third and Cory Goit, a freshman, came in fifth.
In the 100 dash, Nolin Page, a senior, ran fourth and junior Marc DesJardin came in eighth.
Junior Caleb Sturgill took fifth in the 1,500 run, and Ben Dieker, also a junior placed eighth in the triple jump. Sophomore Andrew Judd placed eighth in the 100 hurdles.
For the girls, the 4×400 relay team of Jacee Retherford, Katelyn Page, Danielle Barry and Shanley Day placed fourth.
Lindsay Duncan, a senior, took second in discus and fourth in javelin. Sarah Cary, a junior, placed second in the triple jump and fifth in the long jump.
Freshman Jacee Retherford took third in the triple jump and fourth in the long jump, along with placing fourth in the 100 hurdles. Senior Shanley Day took third in high jump and Rebecca Holliday, a junior, placed second in pole vault.
In the 1,500 run, juniors Danielle Barry and Angie Allen placed fourth and fifth, respectively. Robin Dunn, also a junior, placed fourth in the 800.
Freshman Emily Johns took fifth in the 100-meter dash, and sophomore Sabrina Hoffman placed fifth in the triple jump. Marzuri Waggoner, also a sophomore, placed sixth in the high jump and eighth in the triple jump.
