Gerald Norman Beil of John Day died Thursday, June 1, 2006, at Blue Mountain Hospital from a long battle with cancer.-He was 76.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at the John Day Senior Center.-
-Mr. Beil was born June 14, 1929, in Glidden, Wis. to Martin and Anna Beil.-He served in the Army, then came out west to Seneca in 1950 and worked for Dennis Bunke, and then later Edward Hines Lumber Co.-In 1951, he married Yvonne Buchanan and had two children, Gordon and Wanda.-In 1972, he married Connie Cyrus, this added Randy, Rich, Cindy, and Carey to his family.-He worked for the City of Canyon City, then went to work for Grant Union High School, until 1992 when he retired at 62. –
He was very active in the community, serving the Credit Union, Loggers Union (#2902), Luce Long Ditch Co. and the Grant County Food Bank.

He will be remembered for his love of family, friends and gardening.
-Mr. Beil is survived by his wife, Connie, of 34 years; son, Gordon, and his wife, Betty Beil, of Canyon City; daughter, Wanda, and her husband, Lindsey Wenick, of Bend; son, Randy, of Tallahassee, Fla.; son, Rick, and his wife, Kathy Cyrus, of John Day; daughter, Cindy, and her husband, Roger Bell, of Gold Beach; daughter, Carey, and her husband, Dan Stinnett, of Plains, Mont.; brothers, Chester, of Klamath Falls; Clifford, of Chicago, Ill.; and Bob and Eugene, of Glidden, Wis.; sisters, Jeanette Mertig, of Glidden, Wis.; Anna Cartwright, of Oshkosh, Wis.;; and Agnes Reischel, of Milwaukie, Wis.; 12 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.-
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Martin and Larry; one sister, Caroline Morford; and one grandchild, Chrystal Cyrus.-
