LA GRANDE – A John Day resident was among a group of Eastern Oregon University students selected to present papers at the 2007 Northwest Undergraduate Conference on Literature at the University of Portland, held March 31.

Shantra Hannibal was chosen along with Victoria Wendt, a junior from Haines, and Holly Arnson, of La Grande. They were members of Jodi Varon’s Folklore in Literature course at EOU in fall term 2006.

Hannibal’s presentation was “Beauty and the Beast: A Multi-Faceted Tale of Transformations,” in which she examines Grimm, Carter and several critical analyses of the scope and function of tales in traditional and contemporary literature.

Students from 15 Northwest colleges and universities participated in the conference.
