MONUMENT – Didn’t have any out-of-town visitors this week, but still had 43 people for dinner on Tuesday, April 17. We ate about four different types of pizza, green salad and some fancy bright birthday cake that Betty Richards brought for granddaughter Carrie Jewells birthday. We’ll sing to her later.

Terri Hamilton won the Chester’s Thriftway certificate and Marion Fowler won the free meal.

The “Spring Fling” is coming up soon and I haven’t seen any of the Home Extension ladies, so will have to save the date, time, and place until next week. Actually, I know the place is in the Senior Center, but that’s it. I got my ticket today for the EMT’s annual steak dinner on April 29. This one will be in the paper before it’s over, so better check them out.

We’ve lost another of our Patchwork of Family and Friends.” Clyde Cavendar passed away on Sunday, April 15 and graveside services were held on Thursday, April 19, with a dinner at the Senior Center afterward. Many people came to pay their respects to her and her family. I know a lot of people, and a lot of women who I like, admire, even love a few of them, but I’ve always had a rather short list of “ladies.” May De Ett Hinton was one of them, and Clyde was definitely on that list. She was quiet, polite, always neat and well-dressed, friendly, kind, and how I imagine royalty would behave. She wasn’t putting on airs of any kind. I know I wasn’t the only one who felt this way, because I’ve been around when her daughters were present and they treated her with love, respect and admiration. And if your own children treat you in that manner, then you have really achieved something. She always gave the impression of neatness and efficiency, and would work right along with anyone on just about any type of work. I’ve already mentioned how she and May De Ett came out of the mint fields looking neat after working all day in dirt and dust. My heart goes out to her family and I’m feeling sorry for myself also, because you don’t find “ladies” very often and my list is getting awfully short.
