Obituaries: Victor  B. “Bud” Nash

Victor Beryl “Bud” Nash died Friday, July 6, 2007, in Pendleton, following complications from pulmonary fibrosis. He was 86.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2007, at New Hope Community Church in Hermiston. Interment will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Stanfield.  A dinner will be served at the church following the interment.

 Mr. Nash was born on June 7, 1921, on the Nash Ranch in Winlock, near Spray to Ray and Winifred Nash. He attended grade schools at Cove, Winlock, and Ridgeview, and either rode his horse or lived near the schools in a cabin. He attended Wheeler High School and graduated in 1941.

 He was a member of the United States Coast Guard Merchant Marines during World War II, serving in the South Pacific from 1944 to 1945. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to work on the family ranch.

 On August 18, 1951, he married Ellen Snabel in Redmond. They operated the Nash Ranch raising cattle, pigs, chickens, sheep, alfalfa hay and wheat.  On March 23, 1993, they moved to their home in Stanfield where they had 20 acres and raised hay.

 Mr. Nash was a member of the Oregon Cattlemen’s Association, the Spray School Board, was a 4-H Livestock Leader, member of the PTA, and a member of the Spray Grange.  He also helped at the Spray Rodeo for many years.

 Mr. Nash loved the outdoors and hunting.  His biggest enjoyment in life was riding for cattle on the Middle Fork of the John Day.  He loved going to livestock sales, tending to and irrigating his hay field and orchard.  He also enjoyed going to the tree farm where his son Joe works, and running for parts.

 He is survived by his wife, Ellen, of Stanfield; children, Vickie Vaughn, Ontario; Bill and his wife, Marla Nash, of Beaverton; and Joe and his wife, Reneé Nash, of Stanfield; sisters, Diana Britt of Pilot Rock; and Roberta Alexander of Pendleton; brothers, Harry Nash of Heppner; and Jake Nash of Caldwell, Idaho; grandchildren, Jobe and Anne Nash of Fairfield, Calif.; Evie and Ray Martinez of Ontario; Jacob and Jessica Nash of Sherwood; Justin Nash of Pendleton; and Jonie and Travis Taruscio of Stanfield; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

 Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. Sweeney Mortuary of Heppner is in charge of arrangements.
