Family bike night
JOHN DAY – Families are invited to bike around the path at the Seventh Street Complex from 7-8 p.m. on Aug. 16. This includes a short lesson on helmet safety and hand signals with a couple of loops around the trail. A permission slip signed by a parent is required for youth who come by themselves (pick up permission slips at the district office or the pool). Juice and giveaways will be provided. Prenatal classes
JOHN DAY – A series of prenatal classes will be held every Monday night from 6 to 9 p.m. beginning Aug. 20 in the classroom downstairs at Blue Mountain Hospital. JOHN DAY – New to district student registration will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 27 in the high school library.
Regular student registration will be held Aug. 29. Seniors from 8:30 to 10 a.m.; juniors from 10 to 11:30 a.m.; sophomores from noon to 1:30 p.m.; and freshmen from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
Diabetes classes
JOHN DAY – Blue Mountain Hospital will offer a five-week series of classes on diabetes beginning Aug. 29. Classes will be held on Wednesday from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the hospital cafeteria. Classes are free. Info: 575-4157.

OngoingFossil Beds
The John Day Fossil Beds National Monument will offer a free, ranger-conducted auto tour at 10 a.m. Aug. 11 at the Sheep Rock Unit’s Thomas Condon visitor center. Participants need to bring their own vehicles and good tires are recommended.
A tour of the summer night sky will be held at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Painted Hills overlook. The three-hour tour will feature a portion of the Perseid meteor shower. The tour is ranger-conducted and is free. Participants should bring binoculars and a blanket to lie on. No reservations needed.
