JOHN DAY – Aug. 6, taco salad was served by members of Blue Mountain Hospital Auxiliary members. Donna Mills led the flag salute and Ben Luethe asked the blessing.

A trip to Winnemucca is being planned. Sign up at the Center, need to have deposit by Sept. 5. Single occupancy $85 and double occupancy $75. Trip dates are Oct. 5, 6 and 7. Must have at least 35 signed up to get this price.

Certificate from Len’s Drug was won by Marge Porfily.

Thursday’s meal was oven-baked chicken, parsleyed potatoes, broccoli salad and zucchini bread. Dessert was a chocolate-chocolate birthday cake furnished by Driskill Memorial Chapel and King’s Discount Store.

A very good friend of the Senior Center, named Dan, furnished the entree. Members of the Mt. Vernon Grange served the meal.

Bob McCauley led the flag salute and Ivan Porfily asked the blessing.

Don and Deda Porter were congratulated on 49 years of marriage.

Edna Rettie is celebrating her birthday Aug. 10.

Dena Griffin’s name was drawn as recipient of Chester’s Thriftway certificate and Ben Luethe will eat free, thanks to the Site Council.

The fresh produce is being much appreciated by those taking it home. Local gardeners, sharing produce, are Bob McCauley, Jim Maple, Billie Bullard and sorry if I missed anyone. If my tomatoes ever ripen, I’ll be surprised, but is there ever a bumper crop!

Aug. 13 barbecue pork sandwiches will be served and fried fish on Thursday.

To everyone who has stepped forward to keep the Center running so very efficiently, since the cut back in funds, and all who donate money, time and are doing so willingly – again, thank you!
