DAYVILLE – You drop a pass, you do 15 push-ups.
That was the golden rule during Dayville/Monument’s Aug. 30 practice at Dayville football field, where the Tigers were preparing for their first game against Harper-Huntington Sept. 14.
“We’re just going out there, working hard and trying to play as a team,” said Tiger junior defensive end and linebacker Kyle Hand. “Hopefully, this year it will transform into some wins.”
Wins were lacking last season for the Tigers, who lost all of their games in 2006. This season, with new Coach Skip Inscore at the helm, the Tigers hope to improve on a dismal 2006.
It would be an understatement to say last season was a disappointment for the Dayville/Monument football team. The Tigers went 0-7 in the 1A special district 6 league, losing by an average of 50 points a game.
At practice, the Tigers are still working out who will play where on the field this fall. According to Inscore, Cody Gibson has been taking most of the snaps at quarterback, but the rest is wide open.
“We’re very inexperienced this year,” said Inscore. “Eight of our 12 players are either freshmen or sophomores.”
The Tigers are scheduled to travel to Harper Sept. 14 to take on the Hornets at 2 p.m.
