Otis Patterson is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Orin L. Patterson and is a Grant County product. And when he says we are going to have a peace that suits us and not the Hun, this lad is speaking from the trenches and where death lurks and his words ought to burn into the marrow of any man in Grant County who would even hesitate to back these kinds of kids with his money.

He writes as follows: “Have time for a few lines. Am quite well and in the Best of Spirits.
“As you notice from the postoffice address, we have moved. It was a long journey and quite tiresome but the new sights and scenery made it an interesting one. We passed through many small villages and some large ones. The country showed a lot of prosperity and much different from where we were. At present we are near the front. We can hear the booming of the big guns and at times see aeroplanes scouting around and once in a while we see a fight in the air. It sure is wonderful. Am glad that I am in it. When I come back I will have heaps and heaps of news to tell you all.

“Saw by the last paper that the new draft has been made and some more Grant county boys would soon be on their way. Send them over with a big cheer and tell them not to stop until it is all over and fixed to suit us and not the Hun.
“This is not going to be a very long letter. Can’t say much about things here. But believe me I will be there when the time comes just as Grandad did in 1863.”
