Obituaries: John A. Mellin

John A. Mellin, 67, of Hermiston, died on Wednesday, Jan. 9, at his home in Hermiston.

Mr. Mellin was born at The Dalles on Feb. 16, 1940. John was adventurous and had a love of the outdoors, music and dancing. He was family oriented and had a big heart. John loved to tease and had a great sense of humor. He was very giving and an active member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy with two tour in Vietnam.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Mellin of Hermiston; sons, John Jr.; Craig Mellin of Salem; Hillard “Bill” Mellin of Salem; Michael Mellin of Arizona; and David Hickox of Hermiston; daughters, Cheri Matthews of Beaverton; Toni Mellin of Salem; Mary Gooding of West Valley, Utah; Katherine Holliday of John Day; Verna Hickox of Priest Lake, Idaho; brother, Lewis Dooley of Washington; sisters, Patricia Johnk of Portland; Mary Ann Gambell of Kent, Wash.; and Della Kammadola of Nevada; 29 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Mellin was preceded in death by parents, James and RoseMary Dooley; adoptive parents, Thure and Mable Mellin; three brothers; one sister and one granddaughter.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 12, at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. A graveside memorial will be held at the Canyon City Cemetery this summer.
