Chess tourney tests young players’ skills

VALE – A regional chess tournament hosted by Chess for Success will be held at Vale Elementary School, 403 “E” St. West, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Feb. 9.
The event is for grades K-12. Students may compete as teams or individuals in beginner, intermediate and advanced divisions. The participants can expect to play at least five games of chess.
The cost is $25 for students who register by Feb. 1 or $33 for those who sign up by Feb. 6.
The chess players and their families are responsible for their own transportation and meals.
