JOHN DAY – Pancake-lovers can eat their fill – for free – at a fund-raiser for the Kiwanis Club.

The Outpost Restaurant will serve free all-you-can-eat pancakes from 6 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Feb. 12 – which just happens to be National Pancake Day.

Kim Randleas, Outpost co-owner, said the restaurant wanted to do something for Kiwanis because of their long relationship. The Kiwanis Club has been meeting at the Outpost for about a decade, gathering weekly at noon Wednesdays.

The event also celebrates the launch of the restaurant’s new all-you-can-eat pancakes, which are offered with certain breakfast items on the menu.

Next Tuesday, the Outpost’s cook, Dwaine Winchester, will have plenty of pancake batter ready to feed a crowd, Randleas said. Anyone who’s hungry for pancakes is welcome to come by and enjoy Winchester’s cooking.

“He’s a great pancake maker,” she said

While the pancakes are free, donations will be accepted for the Kiwanis Club. Beverages and other menu items will be available at the usual cost.

Kiwanis members will be on hand to greet restaurant patrons and offer information about the club’s activities and membership opportunities.

The club’s activities include providing college scholarships; swim and ski passes for low-income kids; scholarships for college; donations to community projects such as the ballfield, skate park and dental clinic; aid for organizations such as the Northwest Burn Foundation, the Grant County Food Bank and Girls State, among other activities. A major effort for the club each year is running the 4-H and FFA livestock auction at the Grant County Fair.

The Outpost is at 155 W. Main St. For information about Kiwanis, call club president Kerryann Woomer, 575-4068.
