Obituaries: Helen Joyce (Kirkwood) Guerrero

Helen Joyce (Kirkwood) Guerrero, 70, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008 in Sacramento, Calif.

She was born in Prairie City on March 26, 1937, to Vernon and Ernestine Kirkwood, who preceded her in death.

She attended school in Prairie City, graduating from Prairie City High School in 1954. Joyce was very active in school, and was involved in student body government, journalism, yell team and other activities.

Mrs. Guerrero is survived by her loving husband, Hector Guerrero, who was her constant companion and caregiver during her years of failing health. She was the mother of four children, Cindy Lloyd and Tony Immoos, from her first marriage to Bob Immoos; David Guerrero, who preceded her in death, and Melissa Ruiz, both from her marriage to Mr. Guerrero.

She is also survived by four grandchildren, Megan Engellenner, Joshua, Daniel and Samuel Ruiz; one great-granddaughter, Cadence Engellenner; brother James Vernon Kirkwood; aunt and uncle Carol and Chester Johns of Bates; and many other close relatives and friends.

She loved reading, especially anything about history and archeology, and spent many hours learning of her family history and doing genealogy, along with visiting many family and friends near and far.

Funeral services were held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Elk Grove, Calif. on Jan. 26, followed by burial at Franklin Cemetery in Franklin, Calif.
