Students place in Elks contest

JOHN DAY – Carol Rudishauser, John Day Elks Lodge scholarship chair, reported that four local students have won honors at the local and district Most Valuable Student Scholarship Contests.

The students, their schools and the honors are:

? Elizabeth Inscore, daughter of Ben (Skip) and Cindy Inscore of Dayville, Dayville High School, first at the local level (girls division). She will receive $250.

? Tyler Webb, son of Mark and Sherilyn Webb of Mt. Vernon, Grant Union High School, first at the local level (boys division). He will receive $250.

? Marley Winkelman, daughter of Ed and Jody Winkelman of Dayville, Dayville High School, second place. She will receive $100.

? Noel Nelson, son of Bryan and Deanna Nelson of Canyon City, Grant Union High School, second place. He will receive $100.

The first-place District winners were Diane Mallon and Jess Tate, sponsored by the Burns Lodge. They advance to the state competition, which will be held in Klamath Falls.
