Signs of Heat Stroke

Heat stoke is even more serious than heat exhaustion. When this happens, the body loses its ability to cool down, and body temperature rises from a normal 98-99 degrees to 105 degrees or higher in a short period of time. This is a medical emergency.

The symptoms of heat stroke are the same as heat exhaustion with a few important exceptions:

? red, hot and dry skin because the victim stops sweating

? a rapid and strong pulse

? confusion, in some cases leading to loss of consciousness

? muscle twitching because of a lack of fluids and electrolytes.

To treat heat stroke, you must act quickly to cool down the victim. Get him to shade, take off his clothing and pour cool water over his head and body. If you’re near a river or other water, carry him to it. Get medical help as soon as you can.
