Obituaries: Nellie Flora Sintay

Nellie Flora (Turner) Sintay, 92, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008 in John Day.

She was born in Walterville on May 23, 1915, to Almeron Roswell and Flora Pearl (Basey) Turner. She attended high school in Halfway and Vale, graduating in 1933.

On Aug. 9, 1937 she married Bandy Sintay in Grass Valley, Calif. He preceded her in death on Oct. 19, 1994.

Mrs. Sintay worked as a receptionist for Dr. Newton as well as several other jobs, but mainly was a homemaker. Her hobbies included bowling, dancing, fishing, horseshoes, walking, crocheting and traveling. She was proud of raising four wonderful children and being involved in her grandchildren’s lives.

She was a member of the Hebron Rebekah Lodge, the John Day Senior Center, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Survivors include her sons, George of Salt Lake City, Utah and Willis of Lehi, Utah; daughters, Lillian Olsen of Prineville and Julie Woodbury of John Day; 24 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.

A private viewing was held Saturday, March 1, at Driskill Memorial Chapel, followed by a graveside service at Canyon City Cemetery and a memorial service at the LDS Cultural Hall.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hebron Rebekah Lodge or John Day Senior Center.
