Arrests and citations the Blue Mountain Eagle reports are taken from the logs of area law-enforcement agencies. Every effort is made to report the court disposition of all arrests listed.
Justice Court
CANYON CITY – The Grant County Justice Court reported the following fines and judgments:
? Caitlin Brooks, John Day, was cited for driving while suspended, driving uninsured and violation of the basic rule (78/55 zone). The first two charges were later dismissed when she showed proof of a valid driver’s license and insurance. For the speeding charge, she was fined $185.
? Ian McLeod, Mt. Vernon, was cited for violation of the basic rule (74/55 zone). Fined $110.
? Christopher Harner, Livingston, Mont., was cited for violation of the basic rule (78/55 zone). Fined $185.
? Cody Polley, Canyon City, was found guilty of one count of furnishing alcohol to a minor and one count of possession of alcohol by a minor. Two other counts of furnishing alcohol to a minor were dismissed. He was fined $350 for the first count and $500 for the second. He was also ordered to complete an alcohol treatment program at his own expense.
? Rockele Jones, Longmont, Colo., was cited for violation of the basic speed law (74/55 zone). Fined $145.
? James Whale, John Day, was cited for violation of the basic speed rule (71/55 zone). Fined $110.
? Lonnie Waak, Bend, was cited for violation of the basic speed rule (74/55 zone). Fined $110.
? Thomas Specht, Prairie City, was cited for violation of the basic speed rule (42/25 zone). Fined $110.
Circuit Court
CANYON CITY – The Grant County Circuit Court reported the following fines and judgments:
? Vicente Lepez Olivera, 38, pleaded guilty to one count of attempt to commit a Class B felony. He was sentenced to the Oregon Department of Corrections for 43 months and placed on post-prison supervision for three years. He pleaded guilty also to one count of felony possession of a firearm and sentenced to the Oregon Department of Corrections for 90 days, and to one count of harassment with sentencing to jail for 10 days. Fines for all three counts totaled $781. Seven other counts were dismissed, one for unlawful use of a weapon, one for felony possession of a firearm, three for recklessly endangering another person and two for criminal forfeiture.
Oregon State Police
? Jacob M. Derosier, 21, was cited for driving uninsured and having an open container of alcohol. Passenger, Sarah F. Derosier, 19, was cited for minor in possession of alcohol.
Grant County Sheriff
? Gary Sparks, 49, Nyssa, was cited for violation of the basic rule (78/55 zone).
? Duane Cornett, 48, Salem, was cited for violation of the basic rule (79/55 zone).
Dispatch
John Day dispatch worked 177 calls during the week of March 3 – 9, 2008. Along with the various traffic warnings, trespassing, injured animals, noise complaints and juvenile complaints, these calls included:
Law enforcement: Grant County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of vandalism in the bathrooms at Clyde Holliday State Park; Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of credit card theft at Winner’s Choice; Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of offensive littering in Prairie City; Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of criminal mischief near Wilderness Lane; Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of theft in Mt. Vernon; John Day Police received information on a found bike; JD Police and Sheriff’s deputies received information on shots fired in the John Day area; JD Police served a warrant for a woman out of Grant County; JD Police took a report of a drunk driver with children in the car; Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of dead cows in the river at Ritter; JD Police took a report of a stolen girls Huffy bike; Grant County Road Department took a report of speeding in Prairie City; Sheriff’s deputies took a report of mailbox theft on Ritter Road; Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of nails in the road in Canyon City; JD Police arrested a John Day man on a Grant County warrant; JD Police arrested a John Day woman on probation violation; Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of sex abuse in John Day; JD Police took information on a possible minor-in-possession party; Oregon Department of Transportation, Oregon State Police and Sheriff’s deputies received information on a large rock slide on Highway 395 south; Sheriff’s deputies received a report of texting harassment; Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a dog bite near Franks Creek Ranch; Sheriff’s deputies took a report of a stolen ATV; Prairie City Fire responded to a report of a grass fire burning outside restrictions in Prairie City.
Ambulance: John Day ambulance was requested for an 88-year-old man who was choking; JD ambulance was requested for a man who fell and possibly had a stroke; JD ambulance was requested for a 75-year-old woman with difficulty breathing; Seneca ambulance was requested for an elderly woman who had fallen.
