Easter services planned

JOHN DAY – The community is invited to an Easter Sonrise Service, sponsored by the John Day Ministerial Association, on the hill near the airport.

It will start at 7 a.m. on Easter Sunday, March 23. The speaker this year will be the Rev. Brad Williamson, new associate pastor for youth and young adults at the Church of the Nazarene.

The service will take place at the traditional site. Go west on 4th Avenue Southwest, up the hill toward the airport. Take the driveway next to Al Olson’s residence around the hill.

Weather permitting, there will also be a van to transport those who are unable to walk to the service site.

An Easter breakfast will be served at the John Day Church of the Nazarene following the service until 9:15 a.m.

St. Elizabeth Catholic Church – Palm Sunday services: 5 p.m. Saturday, March 15, or 9 a.m. Sunday, March 16; Holy Thursday: Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper, 7 p.m. March 20; Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, 9 p.m. March 20; Good Friday: Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary, 12:05 p.m., and Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion, 3 p.m., Stations of the Cross, 7 p.m. March 21; Easter Vigil Mass: 8 p.m. Saturday, March 22; Easter Sunday Mass: 9 a.m.

? St. Thomas Episcopal Church – Palm Sunday Eucharist: 10 a.m. Saturday, March 15; Maundy Thursday service and potluck-Eucharist: 6 p.m. March 20; Easter Eucharist Sunday service: 10 a.m. March 23.

? First Christian Church – Easter Service: 11 a.m. followed by a ham dinner at about 12:30 p.m., open to the public.

? Prairie City Assembly of God, Grace Chapel Church, Prairie Baptist Church and United Methodist Church – Community Easter Celebration: 10:30 a.m., Sunday, March 23, Prairie City School old gym, followed by refreshments.
