Obituaries: Teresa Marie Raines

Teresa Marie Raines, 82, of Austin, died March 2, 2008 in Boise, Idaho.

Services were handled by Gray’s West & Company Pioneer Chapel, with visitation March 6, and the funeral March 7. Pastor Roger Scovil of the Baker City Christian Church officiated. Vault interment at Mt. Hope Cemetery followed the funeral service.

She was born Jan. 17, 1926, in Ontario, to John Floyd and Margarite (Miller) Hammack. Throughout her life, she lived in Ontario, Unity and Bates for 25 years, and Austin for 33 years.

On May 18, 1946, she married Forrest Eugene Raines in Canyon City. She was a wife and mother most of her life, but she had worked a few years out of the home at the Austin House and G & L Pine in John Day.

She enjoyed many years, drinking coffee with her friend Rosalie. She also spent time rock hounding, bottle collecting, mining, embroidering and gardening. She was a dog lover, enjoyed reading poetry and the Bible. She loved her family and friends with a whole heart; her greatest pleasure was being in her home.

Mrs. Raines was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest Eugene Raines; daughter, Judy Ann Raines; parents, John F. and Margarite Hammack; a brother and a sister.

She is survived by her daughters, Frances (Harold) Preston; Phronsie Raines; and Billie Jo (Terry) George; grandchildren, Todd (Marcy) Butts; Michele (Michael) Bartlett; John George; Terry (Sarah) George; Amber (Rory) Rittenbach; and Levi Preston; great-grandchildren, Joshua Butts; Tristan Butts; Forrest George; Emily George and Benjamin Bartlett; brothers, Delbert “Bud” Hammack and Robert “Bob” Hammack; sisters, Alice Irene “Boots” Curtis; Karen Hensen; and Norma Parrett; brother-in-law, James L. “Tobe” (Laura Lee) Raines; numerous nieces, nephews and long time friends.

Contributions may be made in her name to the Baker Elks Lodge #338 Scholarship Fund through Gray’s West & Company, 1500 Dewey Ave., Baker City, OR 97814.
