PENDLETON – A fly tying workshop will be held Saturday, March 22, at Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, sponsored by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) and the Blue Mountain Fly Casters chapter of the Federation of Fly Fishers.

At the workshop, instructors will teach the basics of fly tying. Participants will actually tie a number of basic trout fishing and pan fishing flies. In addition to tying skills, instructors will cover identification of aquatic insects and how they relate to fly-tying and provide information on equipment, supplies and materials. By the end of the workshop participants will be ready to start tying flies on their own.

“The workshop is open to anyone 18 years of age and older. It’s designed for beginners, but all skill levels are welcome,” said Mary Hoverson, ODFW’s Northeast Region Education Coordinator.

Space in the fly tying workshop is limited to 15 participants and pre-registration is required, according to Hoverson. The cost of the workshop is $30 which covers instruction, program materials, use of equipment and lunch. The workshop begins at 8 a.m. and will end about 5 p.m.

Registration forms are available at ODFW offices, or on-line at www.dfw.state.or.us.
