PRAIRIE CITY – The Prairie City baseball program may be taking a break this season.

The Panthers had been practicing in preparation for the 2008 season, but only nine players came out this season. Prairie City coach Mark Woodbury said Thursday that the team was having problems with players attending practice and so he held a team meeting.

During the meeting, four of the players decided they didn’t want to continue to play, effectively ending Prairie City’s season. Prairie City has had a team for more than 20 consecutive years.

“It’s extremely disappointing for the other five kids that want to play,” Woodbury said. “There’s one kid that’s a senior that won’t get another chance to play.”

The team offered students a chance to sign up for the team through the end of Thursday, March 13, to try to keep the program going.
