JOHN DAY – Cassius “Cash” Cash, the new interim supervisor for the Malheur National Forest, comes to the forest with experience in several states, including Oregon.
On April 7, he replaces Gary “Stan” Benes in the top job on the Malheur.
Cash is currently the Deputy Forest Supervisor on the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest and has been with the Forest Service since 1991.
His posts have included Services Staff Officer and Acting Natural Resources Staff Officer at Nebraska National Forest, District Ranger at Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests in Georgia, Civil Rights Officer for National Forests in Mississippi, and Assistant Forest Wildlife Biologist at Gifford Pinchot National Forest in Washington.
He has also provided oversight and leadership to the entire business operation functions and some of the servicing functions such as Geographic Information System (GIS), Engineering, and Public Affairs.
“I look forward to the opportunities and challenges that working at the Malheur National Forest will bring,” Cash said about his new position. “I am also looking forward to continuing the good work that Stan has created in working with the local communities on a variety of land management issues.”
Cash has a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, and also attended Oregon State University to study wildlife management.
“I’m extremely pleased that Cash has agreed to take this assignment,” Benes commented. “He will provide outstanding leadership, has excellent communication skills, and connects well with people. I have complete confidence in his abilities to keep things moving in a forward direction.”
